James Hector

James Hector is a Scottish geologist and naturalist. He was born in 1834 in Scotland. He arrived in New Zealand in 1862 and was appointed Geologist of Otago. He arrived in New Zealand in 1862. He was the only scientist in Otago. He also became Chancellor of the University of New Zealand. He also founded the botanical gardens in Wellington.
